A little more perspective

John Middendorf’s firsthand 1993 American Alpine Journal account identifies Great Trango’s main summit at 6,286 meters, with separate western and eastern summits. The Copernicus maximum is approximately 6,075 meters in EGM2008 at the selected main-summit coordinate. The roughly 211-meter numerical shortfall is substantial: this coarse surface rounds the granite summit and cannot reproduce its narrow walls accurately. The image is a bounded terrain estimate, not a measurement of a climbing route or vertical rock face.

The local-relief view subtracts the lowest sampled point in this section: 3715.5 meters at 35.728333° latitude, 76.201667° longitude. This produces about 2,359 meters of relief within the stated boundary. It is not a universal mountain base, a route’s total ascent, or topographic prominence.

The rendered surface uses the public 2021 Copernicus release, primarily based on TanDEM-X observations from 2011–2015 with infill from other sources. It is a surface model rather than a current bare-earth survey. Neutral shading explains the geometry without claiming a snow season or photographic ground texture. No datum conversion or summit correction is applied.
