Puerto Rico Trench: depth and source profile

This surveyed section of Puerto Rico Trench reaches approximately 8,385 meters below the EGM96 geoid.

Puerto Rico Trench, Brownson Deep section · North Atlantic · 2018 grid. Depth below EGM96 geoid · 75-meter survey grid: 8384.8 meters, data-derived estimate.
Data-derived water-column section at equal horizontal and vertical scale. Surface at top; depth increases downward. 401 unchanged 75-meter raster cell centers along a 30-kilometer section. Depth is negative raster elevation. No interpolation, missing-cell filling, datum transformation or vertical exaggeration. Straight segments connect measured cells; they are not additional soundings.

A little more perspective

401 unchanged 75-meter raster cell centers along a 30-kilometer section. Depth is negative raster elevation. No interpolation, missing-cell filling, datum transformation or vertical exaggeration. Straight segments connect measured cells; they are not additional soundings. The section reaches 8384.8486328125 meters at 19.701205°, -67.226266°. Stored decimals preserve the raster value, not centimeter accuracy. Both ends remain underwater.

The Five Deeps study reports 8,378 ± 5 meters at Brownson Deep, with a separate submersible result of 8,376 ± 5 meters. The published analysis and this archived grid are separate results. Neither the profile nor its vertical datum has been adjusted to force agreement. The acquisition report identifies EGM96 as its geoid reference.

The section crosses the Brownson Deep area north of Puerto Rico. Its center was selected within a bounded window around the published site. An isolated deeper cell at the distant edge of the archived grid was excluded; the value here is the deepest sample on this section, not a claim of a new Atlantic record.
