A little more perspective
The Smithsonian Global Volcanism Program’s highest-volcano reference lists Nevados Ojos del Salado at 6,879 meters above sea level. Its older photo captions also retain a 6,887-meter figure. This Copernicus section reaches about 6,887 meters in EGM2008. Those similar numbers do not establish common measurement provenance, and the differing published figures are not averaged. The local-relief view uses this section’s lowest point, not the roughly 2,000-meter edifice relief described in the Smithsonian overview.
The local-relief view subtracts the lowest sampled point in this section: 5317.9 meters at -27.078333° latitude, -68.596944° longitude. This produces about 1,569 meters of relief within the stated boundary. It is not a universal mountain base, a route’s total ascent, or topographic prominence.
The rendered surface uses the public 2021 Copernicus release, primarily based on TanDEM-X observations from 2011–2015 with infill from other sources. It is a surface model rather than a current bare-earth survey. Neutral shading explains the geometry without claiming a snow season or photographic ground texture. No datum conversion or summit correction is applied.
