A little more perspective
The current USGS volcano profile lists Mount St. Helens at 2,539 meters. A USGS EROS retrospective separately reports a July 1, 1980 rim measurement of 8,364 feet, approximately 2,549 meters, and supplies the identity coordinate used here. This Copernicus maximum is approximately 2,532 meters in EGM2008 on the post-collapse rim. It does not reconstruct the higher pre-1980 mountain or substitute the height of the crater’s lava dome.
The local-relief view subtracts the lowest sampled point in this section: 838.6 meters at 46.198333° latitude, -122.123333° longitude. This produces about 1,693 meters of relief within the stated boundary. It is not a universal mountain base, a route’s total ascent, or topographic prominence.
The rendered surface uses the public 2021 Copernicus release, primarily based on TanDEM-X observations from 2011–2015 with infill from other sources. It is a surface model rather than a current bare-earth survey. Neutral shading explains the geometry without claiming a snow season or photographic ground texture. No datum conversion or summit correction is applied.
