A little more perspective
401 unchanged 75-meter raster cell centers along a 30-kilometer section. Depth is negative raster elevation. No interpolation, missing-cell filling, datum transformation or vertical exaggeration. Straight segments connect measured cells; they are not additional soundings. The section reaches 7188.142578125 meters at -11.126596°, 114.940093°. Stored decimals preserve the raster value, not centimeter accuracy. Both ends remain underwater.
The Five Deeps study reports 7,187 ± 13 meters for the Indian Ocean site in the Java Trench, with a separate submersible result of 7,192 ± 5 meters. The published analysis and this archived grid are separate results. Neither the profile nor its vertical datum has been adjusted to force agreement. The acquisition report identifies EGM96 as its geoid reference.
This section lies south of Java, near the eastern end of the surveyed trench. Java Trench is also commonly called Sunda Trench. The water-column profile describes one surveyed cross section, not the full length of the trench.
