Illimani: terrain elevation and local relief

Illimani uses an approximately 6,405-meter surface estimate in EGM2008 from Copernicus GLO-30. The bounded terrain section has about 1,914 meters of local relief above its lowest sampled point. Published summit surveys are separate references.

A little more perspective

A firsthand 2013 American Alpine Journal report identifies Illimani’s main summit at 6,439 meters. A 2009 Bolivia geographic table lists 6,438 meters and supplies the southern summit-area coordinate used here. This Copernicus maximum is approximately 6,405 meters in EGM2008 on Pico Sur. The selected coordinate is distinct from generalized massif coordinates that can place a window over the northern summits. The modeled snow-and-ice surface is not a current glacier survey.

The local-relief view subtracts the lowest sampled point in this section: 4490.1 meters at -16.634722° latitude, -67.766944° longitude. This produces about 1,914 meters of relief within the stated boundary. It is not a universal mountain base, a route’s total ascent, or topographic prominence.

The rendered surface uses the public 2021 Copernicus release, primarily based on TanDEM-X observations from 2011–2015 with infill from other sources. It is a surface model rather than a current bare-earth survey. Neutral shading explains the geometry without claiming a snow season or photographic ground texture. No datum conversion or summit correction is applied.
