A little more perspective

SERNANP’s Huascarán National Park visitor brochure gives the mountain’s elevation as 6,768 meters. This section is centered on the south summit area, with a Copernicus maximum of approximately 6,737 meters in EGM2008. The maximum lies about 717 meters from the generalized identity coordinate. North and south summits are distinct, and the brochure’s mountain reference is not treated as a present-day measurement of this older ice surface. The same brochure’s small map label reads 6,678 meters, differing from its 6,768-meter explanatory callout; this record cites the callout and preserves the internal disagreement.

The local-relief view subtracts the lowest sampled point in this section: 3686.9 meters at -9.148056° latitude, -77.650000° longitude. This produces about 3,050 meters of relief within the stated boundary. It is not a universal mountain base, a route’s total ascent, or topographic prominence.

The rendered surface uses the public 2021 Copernicus release, primarily based on TanDEM-X observations from 2011–2015 with infill from other sources. It is a surface model rather than a current bare-earth survey. Neutral shading explains the geometry without claiming a snow season or photographic ground texture. No datum conversion or summit correction is applied.
