The U.S. National Park Service lists Haleakalā’s summit at 10,023 feet, approximately 3,055 meters. This Copernicus section reaches approximately 3,053 meters in EGM2008 in the Puʻuʻulaʻula summit area. Its maximum lies about 961 meters from the generalized identity coordinate, rather than at a presumed exact center point. The local-relief base is inside the summit section, not the island’s coastline or the floor of the broad summit depression.
The local-relief view subtracts the lowest sampled point in this section: 1258.7 meters at 20.749722° latitude, -156.302778° longitude. This produces about 1,794 meters of relief within the stated boundary. It is not a universal mountain base, a route’s total ascent, or topographic prominence.
The rendered surface uses the public 2021 Copernicus release, primarily based on TanDEM-X observations from 2011–2015 with infill from other sources. It is a surface model rather than a current bare-earth survey. Neutral shading explains the geometry without claiming a snow season or photographic ground texture. No datum conversion or summit correction is applied.
