Factorian Deep: depth and source profile

This surveyed section of Factorian Deep reaches approximately 7,432 meters below the EGM96 geoid.

Factorian Deep, South Sandwich Trench · Southern Ocean · 2019 grid. Depth below EGM96 geoid · 75-meter survey grid: 7432.4 meters, data-derived estimate.
Data-derived water-column section at equal horizontal and vertical scale. Surface at top; depth increases downward. 201 unchanged 75-meter raster cell centers along a 15-kilometer section. Depth is negative raster elevation. No interpolation, missing-cell filling, datum transformation or vertical exaggeration. Straight segments connect measured cells; they are not additional soundings.

A little more perspective

201 unchanged 75-meter raster cell centers along a 15-kilometer section. Depth is negative raster elevation. No interpolation, missing-cell filling, datum transformation or vertical exaggeration. Straight segments connect measured cells; they are not additional soundings. The section reaches 7432.3876953125 meters at -60.479192°, -25.545693°. Stored decimals preserve the raster value, not centimeter accuracy. Both ends remain underwater.

The Five Deeps study calls this an unnamed deep and reports 7,432 ± 13 meters south of 60° S, with a submersible result of 7,434 ± 3 meters. The published analysis and this archived grid are separate results. Neither the profile nor its vertical datum has been adjusted to force agreement. The acquisition report identifies EGM96 as its geoid reference.

The southern South Sandwich Trench site is commonly called Factorian Deep. It lies south of the 60° S boundary used by the study for the Southern Ocean. Meteor Deep is deeper but lies north of that boundary in the Atlantic; the two sites are separate records here.
