A little more perspective
The Smithsonian profile lists Changbaishan at 2,744 meters. This Copernicus section reaches approximately 2,738 meters in EGM2008 near Janggun Peak. The section center comes from the Janggun Peak seismic station reported in the 2016 Science Advances study, at 41.994° N, 128.083° E. That is a station near the summit, not a claimed summit survey monument. The dataset maximum lies about 439 meters west of that center. The base is the minimum of this selected crater-area window.
The local-relief view subtracts the lowest sampled point in this section: 1802.4 meters at 41.970833° latitude, 128.016667° longitude. This produces about 935 meters of relief within the stated boundary. It is not a universal mountain base, a route’s total ascent, or topographic prominence.
The rendered surface uses the public 2021 Copernicus release, primarily based on TanDEM-X observations from 2011–2015 with infill from other sources. It is a surface model rather than a current bare-earth survey. Neutral shading explains the geometry without claiming a snow season or photographic ground texture. No datum conversion or summit correction is applied.
