A little more perspective

The University of Otago’s AORAKI2013 project measured Aoraki’s summit at 3,724 meters using a detailed photogrammetric model checked with GPS observations on the nearby ice cap and Summit Rocks. This coarser global surface section reaches about 3,658 meters in EGM2008, with a visibly softened summit ridge. It is a different dataset and is not a current snow or rockfall survey; the published High Peak reference stays independent of this raster.

The local-relief view subtracts the lowest sampled point in this section: 811.4 meters at -43.613333° latitude, 170.079444° longitude. This produces about 2,847 meters of relief within the stated boundary. It is not a universal mountain base, a route’s total ascent, or topographic prominence.

The rendered surface uses the public 2021 Copernicus release, primarily based on TanDEM-X observations from 2011–2015 with infill from other sources. It is a surface model rather than a current bare-earth survey. Neutral shading explains the geometry without claiming a snow season or photographic ground texture. No datum conversion or summit correction is applied.
