A little more perspective
A 2025 paper by Nepal Survey Department authors treats 8,091 meters as Annapurna I’s recognized legacy elevation and proposes a modern remeasurement campaign. It does not announce a new summit height. This section instead records the original Copernicus surface maximum of about 7,961 meters in EGM2008, without correcting the softened summit.
The local-relief view subtracts the lowest sampled point in this section: 3845.7 meters at 28.627778° latitude, 83.767778° longitude. This produces about 4,116 meters of relief within the stated boundary. It is not a universal mountain base, a route’s total ascent, or topographic prominence.
The rendered surface uses the public 2021 Copernicus release, primarily based on TanDEM-X observations from 2011–2015 with infill from other sources. It is a surface model rather than a current bare-earth survey. Neutral shading explains the geometry without claiming a snow season or photographic ground texture. No datum conversion or summit correction is applied.

The approximately 7,961-meter raster maximum does not reclassify Annapurna I below 8,000 meters. Its published 8,091-meter reference and a proposal to remeasure it are separate from this model.
