A little more perspective
Nepal’s Department of Tourism lists Ama Dablam at 6,814 meters in its 2025 mountaineering facts publication. The bounded Copernicus surface reaches approximately 6,661 meters in EGM2008. This pronounced difference remains visible because a coarse surface grid does not preserve the narrow summit at survey precision. The section’s lowest sample defines its local-relief base; a climber’s route, camp and accumulated ascent do not define that base.
The local-relief view subtracts the lowest sampled point in this section: 3996.2 meters at 27.866667° latitude, 86.805833° longitude. This produces about 2,665 meters of relief within the stated boundary. It is not a universal mountain base, a route’s total ascent, or topographic prominence.
The rendered surface uses the public 2021 Copernicus release, primarily based on TanDEM-X observations from 2011–2015 with infill from other sources. It is a surface model rather than a current bare-earth survey. Neutral shading explains the geometry without claiming a snow season or photographic ground texture. No datum conversion or summit correction is applied.

The 6,814-meter tourism reference is retained beside a substantially lower sampled summit. The terrain is not stretched to hide that difference.
