A little more perspective
The reference belongs to the named kauri in Waipoua Forest and includes its full crown above the trunk. DOC restated 51.5 meters in its December 2024 release; the release does not specify when the tree was measured.
A Department of Conservation table distinguishes a 17.68-meter trunk height from the 51.5-meter total. Measuring only the clean trunk would leave out most of the branching crown. The illustration retains the massive cylindrical lower trunk and spreading upper branches of this individual.
