Guinness attributes the 1.2-meter shoulder reconstruction to Mauricio Antón’s examination of skeletal remains. Its account separately discusses an exceptionally large Uruguayan skull and a mass estimate; those details do not establish that the shoulder value belongs to that same individual.
The broad forequarters, short tail and elongated upper canines follow the animal’s skeletal form. Coat pattern and soft tissues are interpretive. The shoulder anchor lies behind the head, so ear tips do not inflate the selected height.
