A little more perspective
China’s national tourism office gives the main palace a height of 117 meters. UNESCO separately describes the ensemble on Red Mountain at an altitude of about 3,700 meters; that altitude is not added to the building height.
The bounded illustration follows the White and Red Palace structure above its immediate building base. The hill, access road and extensive approach stairs are excluded. It is not a 117-meter measurement from the distant valley floor.
