A little more perspective
J. Rohan Lucas distinguishes the stupa’s original 122-meter height from its surviving 71-meter configuration in his paper on lightning protection of Sri Lankan stupas. This comparison selects the surviving structure described in that paper.
The missing upper portion is not filled in to recover the historical total. The illustration therefore ends at the truncated surviving pinnacle above the broad brick dome. The publication date identifies the evidence used; it is not presented as a new survey conducted that year.
