UNESCO identifies the Leshan Giant Buddha as 71 meters high. That dimension describes the carved sculpture, rather than the elevation of the hill or a height above the river’s changing surface.

The seated knees, hands and long lower legs are part of the monument’s outline. Surrounding cliffs, vegetation, stairs and river scenery are excluded from the isolated sculpture comparison.
