A little more perspective
Kotoku-in’s measurement table lists 13.35 meters including the platform and 11.312 meters for the Buddha itself. The illustration includes the supporting platform, so the larger value supplies the scale.
A seated monument should retain its actual pose. Straightening the legs or comparing the top of its head as though the figure were standing would change the subject. Fine bronze details and the internal platform proportions remain interpretive. The oblique illustration preserves the vertical reference while foreshortening horizontal width; the picture is not a measured front elevation.
