A little more perspective

In Joe Nazzaro’s Make-Up Artist interview, Game of Thrones prosthetic supervisor Barrie Gower describes Wun Wun as intended to be 20 feet tall during the production of season five’s Hardhome. This record selects that nominal reference, equivalent to 6.096 meters, for the television character’s 2015 appearance. It is not the stature of performer Ian Whyte or a measurement of the book character.

Gower describes filming the giant separately during visual-effects pickups after the main location shoot. The upright illustration makes the selected height readable from the soles to the top of the hair; the show’s composited action shots do not establish a separate measurement for every pose.

Quick facts

The giant in Hardhome uses the 20-foot height described by the show’s prosthetic supervisor, Barrie Gower.
