A little more perspective
NASA’s orbiter dimensions table lists a height of 17.25 meters and a length of 37.24 meters with landing gear shown. This view measures from the runway contact plane to the top of the vertical stabilizer. It excludes the external tank and boosters used for launch.
The vertical tail sets the top marker even though most of the fuselage sits much lower. NASA’s same table lists 23.79 meters of wingspan, a separate horizontal measurement. An orbiter on a runway and the complete upright launch stack therefore belong to different configurations of the Shuttle system.
