In Bill Desowitz’s October 2009 Animation World Network interview, director Brad Bird describes placing a 50-foot robot in the setting of his 1999 film. The metric value is a unit conversion of that rounded description, not a claim that the character was specified to centimeter precision.
The cutout holds the robot upright with its ordinary head and body configuration. Bent knees, a seated pose or transformed components would occupy a different outline. Add a human reference beside it to compare the selected standing height.
