A little more perspective

FIBA’s 2024 equipment rules specify a circumference of 750 to 770 millimeters for a size-7 basketball. Dividing the selected lower limit of 750 millimeters by π gives approximately 0.2387 meters in diameter, assuming a perfect sphere. The calculation is a dimensional reference, not a measurement of a particular inflated ball.

The illustration shows a conventional orange eight-panel ball with black channels. Inflation, manufacturing tolerances and deformation can affect a real ball’s dimensions. The round artwork preserves its natural proportions; its leather texture, panel layout and lighting are interpretive.

Quick facts

A spherical basketball with a 750-millimeter circumference has a calculated diameter of about 23.9 centimeters. This uses the lower end of FIBA’s size-7 circumference range.
